As with all our Kombucha, the Green Tea Kombucha with CBD was developed with the active input of our Tea Guru, John Wetzel of Stone Leaf Teahouse. For this special concoction, we used Gunpowder green tea, sourced from sustainable organic farms in the mountains of China’s Zhejiang region. The pleasant, tea-forward taste – with a hint of smokiness – lets the functionality of the CBD and antioxidants speak for itself.

CBD Kombucha FAQs
As states have started to legalize marijuana for medical purposes, CBD (Cannabidiol) has become a popular supplement to address a long list of purported benefits. Typically extracted from hemp plants, CBD can be converted into a tincture, edible or beverage for ingesting, or converted into an oil for topical use. While there have not been many meaningful scientific studies on the benefits of CBD in the United States, a growing number of health experts – and CBD users – believe that CBD can deliver anti-inflammatory benefits and can help reduce the effects of anxiety.
CBD (Cannabidiol) should not be confused with THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana – or what gets you “high.” On its own, CBD has no psychoactive effects, although it’s important to note that some CBD products are “CBD blends” or “CBD dominant,” meaning they could contain more than trace amounts of THC.
The CBD in our new Kombucha flavors is extracted from hemp plants and is verified as “THC free” from our CBD producer. So while you will not get high from our Kombucha, many CBD enthusiasts report relief from muscle or joint pain and even reduced anxiety. We like to describe our CBD Kombucha as a massage in bottle.
The sale of hemp-based CBD is legal in Vermont, provided the product contains less than 0.3% THC. Approximately 40 states allow for some form of CBD use or sale. While CBD has not been fully legalized federally (although university research is allowed), the 2018 Farm Bill is expected to include language to legalize CBD nationwide. This measure is supported by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R- Kentucky), who has pledged to make the passage of the Farm Bill a priority of the lame duck session of Congress.
Each 16 oz bottle of our Chaga Chai Kombucha and Green Tea Kombucha contains 25 milligrams of CBD.
There is no official designation for organic CBD, so we cannot designate the entire beverage as certified organic. However, the CBD was extracted from organic hemp grown on local Vermont farms. And as with all our Kombucha, the green and black teas used in these new CBD flavors are certified organic. The chaga is sustainably harvested from the Maine wilderness.
After many trials, we have selected a water-soluble CBD that does not affect the Kombucha’s flavor profile, color or clarity. Our CBD is sourced from hemp farms that employ organic growing practices and undergoes rigorous third-party testing to ensure that the CBD is safe, compliant and free of any pesticides or heavy metals. Each bottle contains 25 mg of CBD.
Our chaga is harvested by Annanda Chaga. Annanda Chaga only harvests Chaga Mushrooms from pristine far Northern Canadian Forests from private lands. Annanda Chaga Mushrooms are harvested sustainable from larger mature living Birch trees and are organically certified by Ecocert Canada and wild crafted; offering assurance that the Chaga and host tree, are at minimum 1km away from urban sprawl with additional safeguards of 3rd party laboratory testing for heavy metals and pesticides. Annanda Chaga Mushroom Tincture is made under license with Health Canada and offers the maximum potency wild Chaga Mushrooms can offer to help with serious disease like cancer.
Please consult with your medical professional regarding your specific CBD usage and dosage.
Like all of our Kombucha flavors, the Chaga Chai and Green Tea Kombucha are non-alcoholic, after having the naturally occurring alcohol extracted by our Spinning Cone Column (read all about our alcohol control story here). As a non-alcoholic beverage, all Kombucha (aside from Hard Kombucha) must stay below 0.5% Alcohol By Volume. This is especially important for CBD-infused Kombucha: the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau prohibits – and actively enforces – the addition of CBD to alcoholic beverages. Some state regulators, even in states that allow CBD like Massachusetts, have followed suit.
